‘Caspian Drilling Company’ was established in 1997 between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (55%) and Santa Fe/Global Santa Fe/Transocean Inc.(45%) as the first joint venture to perform drilling services in the Caspian region and follow up an execution of Product Sharing Agreement in Azerbaijani Sector of Caspian Sea.

But on June 30, 2009 45% of USA's Santa Fe Inc. has been acquired by Caspian Drilling Company and now State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic owns 55%, while Caspian Drilling Company has 45% share of CDC.

Having a local status, the Company at the same time operates in compliance with international standards and has been verifying forecasts of seismic exploration operations with drilling data as well as drilling exploitation wells from sub sea templates. The Company is a main drilling contractor in 16 PSAs executed for the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. As a result of drilling operations Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Daniz fields were discovered.

Over the period of Company’s operations 30 deep exploration wells on 14 geological structures, named Garabag, Ashrafi, Dan Ulduzu, Azeri, Chirag, Gunashli, Shah Daniz, Nakhchivan, Absheron, Inam, Kurdashi and Araz Daniz fields and 35 directional, inclined and horizontal wells were drilled from subsea template pre-drilling and subsea Xmas tree wells on Istiglal and Dada Gorgud.

The wells drilled for AIOC were awarded a Hi-Plus category.
Drilling operations have been performed in compliance with International personnel, operations, safety, environmental and financial policies.
Training and nationalization are an integral part of those policies.
Personnel interrelationships have been contributing to a friendly environment on the rigs.
